Why Does Your Eye Twitch?

Why eye twitch in muscles beneath the eyelid begin at all, are questions asked by those who have gone through the annoying condition.
Although it seems like the rapid movement beneath the upper or lower eyelid is obvious to all, it isn't because it is so difficult for an observer to actually see the movement.
Figuring out the most common causes of eye twitching almost always lead to a recent or ongoing stressful situation, worrying, lack of sleep, not getting enough magnesium in the diet, working too long at the computer, and too much caffeine or alcohol.
All of these can be remedied and the eye spasms eliminated.
In most cases the condition never lasts longer than a week at most.
In some cases, a more serious disorder may be present which warrants an appointment with a doctor or ophthalmologist.
Sometimes why eye twitch muscle spasms may be due to an undiagnosed condition called Tourette's syndrome, or a brain injury.
A less common condition called Hemifacial leads to the paralysis of the muscles of the face on one side only.
This includes the eyelid which for some inexplicable reason pops open and stays that way.
The physician will assist the patient in wearing an eye patch and applying moisturizing eye drops to protect the eye for the duration.
It is thought Hemifacial spasms are caused from severe stress and fatigue or more commonly, the pressure from a blood vessel against a facial nerve.
The good news is, it is only temporary and the person will return to normal in a very short time period.
If any symptoms are present to indicate why eye twitch occurs, such as headache, twitching that makes the eyes close tightly, redness, itching, watering, dryness, feeling like sand is in the eyes, or if the spasms are painful or last longer than a week, it is of the utmost importance to see a doctor immediately to rule out other causes.
If the doctor does not detect any diseases or damage to the eye, then reducing stress, eating properly, taking a multivitamin every day, and getting enough sleep will help.
Also, reducing caffeine may eliminate eye twitching for good.
