DIY Knitted Baby Uggs

    Sole

    • 1). Cast on 20 stitches with your main color of yarn. Choose a worsted weight suede-like yarn for a more realistic replica of Ugg Boots. Knit one row.

    • 2). Knit one stitch on the next row. Increase a stitch in the method of your choice, you may choose to bring the yarn to the front of your needles before making your next stitch, a method of increasing called a “yarn over.” Knit nine more stitches. Increase one more stitch. Knit two stitches. Increase another stitch. Knit nine more stitches, increase another stitch and knit the final stitch on your needles for a new total of 26 stitches.

    • 3). Knit each stitch in the next row and every row of knitting between increase rows.

    • 4). Knit two stitches. Increase one stitch. Knit nine stitches, increase one stitch. Knit two stitches, increase one stitch. Knit two stitches, increase one stitch. Knit nine stitches, increase one stitch and knit the final two stitches on the needle for a total of 31 stitches.

    • 5). Remember to knit every other row. On the next increase row, knit three stitches and increase one stitch. Knit nine stitches and increase one stitch. Knit seven stitches and increase one stitch. Knit nine stitches and increase one stitch. Knit the final three stitches in the row for a total of 35 stitches.

    • 6). Begin your next patterned row by knitting four stitches and increasing one stitch. Knit nine stitches and increase one stitch. Knit five stitches and increase one stitch. Knit four stitches and increase one stitch. Knit nine stitches and increase one stitch. Knit the final four stitches on the needles for a total of 40 stitches.

    • 7). Knit five stitches at the beginning of your next increase row. Increase one stitch, and knit nine more stitches. Create one increase and knit six stitches. Create another increase and knit six more stitches. Create an increase and knit nine stitches. Create a final increase and knit the remaining five stitches on the needles for a total of 45 stitches.

    • 8). Knit the next row. Purl the row after that. Repeat this step for a total of eight rows knitted alternating knit stitch and purl stitch–a pattern referred to as stockinette stitch.

    Instep

    • 1). Knit 26 stitches. Decrease a stitch by slipping one stitch as if you were going to knit it, slipping a second stitch, and picking them both back up with your working needle and knitting them together as if they were one stitch, a decrease referred to as a “slip, slip knit” or SSK stitch. Turn bootie, ignoring the rest of the stitches on the needle.

    • 2). Slip 11 stitches on the next row, not working them at all. Purl seven stitches. Purl two stitches together as if they were one stitch. Turn your work again, ignoring the rest of the stitches on the needle.

    • 3). Slip 11 stitches and knit seven stitches. Decrease with an SSK stitch. Turn the project around to work the next row, ignoring the rest of the stitches.

    • 4). Slip 11 stitches and purl seven stitches. Purl two stitches together. Turn the work. Repeat steps three and four of the instep pattern four more times.

    • 5). Repeat step three one more time, but knit to the end of the row. On the next row, purl 19 stitches, purl two stitches together and purl to the end of the row. Knit two inches worth of stockinette stitch fabric.

    Finishing

    • 1). Introduce the contrasting color of yarn. Knit two rows with the contrasting yarn, knitting every stitch.

    • 2). Bind off each stitch.

    • 3). Sew the back seam of the booties using the contrasting color yarn. Weave in any loose yarn ends.

    • 4). With the contrasting color of yarn, sew or weave a line of stitches down each side of the booties and across the instep to mimic the Ugg boot look.

    • 5). Repeat all steps for a second bootie.
