How to Change a Saturn SC-1 Ignition Switch

    • 1). Remove the three screws securing the upper trim cover of the steering column. The screws feed up through the bottom trim cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove them and lift the upper trim cover out of the way.

    • 2). Remove the two bolts securing the ignition switch to the steering column using a socket and ratchet. The ignition switch is located just below the tilt steering arm in the column.

    • 3). Unplug the electrical connector from the ignition switch. Remove the switch from the steering column and discard it.

    • 4). Plug the electrical connector into the connection on the new switch. Insert the new ignition switch into position and secure it using the two mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 13 inch-pounds with a torque wrench.

    • 5). Replace the upper steering column trim cover and secure it with the three screws. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten them into position.
