How to Get a Cat to Stop Meowing
- 1). Ignore the cat's meowing. If the cat is meowing because it's bored, even negative attention is better than no attention, in the cat's opinion. The best solution is simply not to give in. Don't yell at the cat, or respond to the meowing in any way. Only reward the cat with attention when it is quiet. It will take time and patience.
- 2). Set up a room for the cat with a litter box, food bowl, water bowl, toys and a bed. If your cat meows at night, you can shut the cat in the room. Provide a radio tuned to a talk station to keep the cat company. If the cat's meows are very loud, you can use earplugs.
- 3). Play with the cat before bedtime. Get the cat tired, so it will want to sleep instead of keeping you up. Provide interactive cat toys that the cat can use on its own, so it can keep itself amused.
