How To Combat A Burning Yeast Infection: 3 Home Remedies

A vaginal yeast infection is extremely uncomfortable. Beginning symptoms involve a white discharge, and shortly thereafter women experience itching, burning, and even pain during intercourse. Sometimes an odor is even present.

Though most often associated with women, men also get yeast infections. Often this results in a burning sensation during urination or intercourse. A rash can also develop around the foreskin.

Once infected couples can pass the infection back and forth between each other prolonging the experience. It is not considered a sexually transmitted disease because the root cause is often due to an imbalance between yeast and helpful bacteria in the digestive tract.

Fluctuations in hormone or immune system levels can also lead to yeast infections. Pregnant persons as well as those with diabetes can suffer from yeast infections for these reasons. Those taking prescriptions, particularly birth control, can also experience hormone fluctuations that lead to more frequent least infections.

Under the care of your physician, there are several home remedies you can try to alleviate the itching and burning associated with a yeast infection:

1. Tea tree oil. This is at the top of my list for yeast infection cures. Add 2-5 drops of tea tree oil to a carrier such as aloe gel or jojoba oil. Start with two drops and increase the dosage. When the solution tingles on the infected area, it is at an idea concentration. A stronger dose does not help you more, in fact, when essential oils are too strong it can cause a minor rash and irritation of the skin.

2. Plain yogurt. Some people like to use yogurt topically on the infected area, but eating yogurt works great for balancing the yeast infection that could be inside your body. Increasing the amount of healthy bacteria in your body gives your body a chance to fight back against the yeast. It is recommended to get unsweetened plain yogurt because sugar in the diet can fuel the yeast and make it more powerful.

3. Garlic. A powerful antifungal and immune system booster, garlic is a valuable weapon against a candida infection. Some people use it topically and apply it to the infected area. However, I prefer using garlic oil as a method for staving off the infection without having to worry about applying particles of garlic to the skin. The oil is available online and at some natural food stores. Be sure to dilute the oil before applying to the skin. Incorporating fresh garlic into the diet is another great way to snuff out candida in its tracks.

There are tablets available for those who may have a sensitivity to consuming raw garlic.
