How to Adjust a Residential Water Well's Pump Pressure

    • 1). Locate the above-ground controller panel for your residential water pump.

    • 2). Locate the "Pressure Switch" on the pump controls. A pressure gauge will be near the switch. Near the gauge and switch will be the adjustment screw.

    • 3). Insert your screwdriver into the screw and turn it clockwise one or two revolutions. This will increase the pressure in your pump. You can turn the screw the other way to decrease pressure.

    • 4). Locate the differential adjustment screw next to the PSI gauge on the control. Use your screwdriver to turn the screw left and right in order to adjust the difference between the on and off pressure setting. A standard setting is 20 PSI.

    • 5). Monitor the cycling of the pump and check water pressure to see if it is ideal. You can adjust more if need be.
