Alpine World Ski Championships 2007 in Åre, Sweden

The 2007 Alpine Ski World Championships races were held in Are's redesigned and improved Olympia ski area, within walking distance of central Åre.

The event ran from the 3rd to the 18th of February in 2007 (more about this month in Scandinavia in February).

During these two weeks, 350 athletes from 60 nations competed on the slopes of Åre, Sweden - broadcast during 600 hours of TV. The small town of Åre welcomed approximately 1,500 media representatives, 1,600 volunteers and a total of 100,000 visitors.

Åre Skiresort has 40 lifts (capacity for 47 390 persons/hour) and 102 slopes. The resort has 50 restaurants and 15 bars and nightclubs. Åre is situated in Jämtland, 98 km from the city of Östersund.

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships are over. With an emotional ceremony and warm words the FIS flag was handed over to Val d'Isère and the 2009 Championships. After the conclusive Nations Team Event, the closing ceremony was celebrated at the finish area. The national flags of every participating country were brought to the arena by young skiers from the local club.
