Technology Games

Definition: A style of multiplayer that lets players take turns using one game system, common on portable platforms like the PSP. Games with pass-and-play multiplayer must obviously follow a turn-based structure, so it is most common in strategy games, party games, and other such slower genres.

In the heyday of PC gaming, the term "hotseat" referred to the fact that a player stood up from their chair to allow the next player to sit and take their turn at the keyboard -- much like a contestant on a game show.

With the recent rise of handheld gaming, the term pass-and-play has become more prevalent.

Also Known As:  Hotseat multiplayer, Pass 'n Play, Alternating multiplayer

Worms: Open Warfare 2 features pass-and-play multiplayer with timed turns.
