Crabgrass Preventer Instructions

    • 1). Buy a crabgrass preventer. Spring fertilizers frequently come with crabgrass prevention or it can be purchased separately. Organic options include corn-based crabgrass preventers.

    • 2). Pour the amount you will use into your spreader. Use the directions on the bag to set the distribution rate on the spreader.

    • 3). Distribute the preventer evenly using a drop or broadcast spreader. Use caution near garden beds and do not let the chemicals make contact with ornamental plants.

    • 4). Avoid gaps in coverage. Crabgrass will sprout in even the smallest area that is not treated and then spread seeds to the rest of the yard. Overlap by at least a wheel width for every pass made with the spreader.
