2014 Prize

The winning songwriter will receive a $1,000 cash prize, two round-trip Southwest Airlines tickets to Music City (for the winner and one guest), and will spend five nights at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel downtown, with transportation provided from Nashville International Airport to hotel and return from hotel to airport.

While in town, the winner will be interviewed by Storme Warren host of GAC’s Headline Country and “Music Row Happy Hour” on Sirius/XM Highway 59 Radio, and will also be interviewed on GAC TV to run in a scheduled show.

The winner will also get a showcase session at the American Songwriter office, and will have an interview featured in American Songwriter Magazine. Jana Kramer will also offer a mentoring session and a personalized autographed CD to the winner. The winning song will be recorded during the taping of Sirius/XM Satellite Radio Show’s “Music City Connection: Heroes Behind the Hits,” a monthly radio show recorded and produced by the Nashville CVC, and the song will be highlighted on Music City Radio, Nashville’s online radio station.

The winner will also receive a one-hour writing session with a professional songwriter, and the opportunity to receive a single song publishing deal. A Nashville Music City Gift Bag and an official Backstage Pass will also be included, with the pass offering complimentary admission for two to more than 30 Nashville attractions.

Review Process

Entries will be narrowed down to the top 25 finalists and posted on the MCSC website on or around the week of March 4, 2014, which will then be judged by a panel of top names in the Nashville music industry, including recording artist Jana Kramer, ASCAP’s Mike Sistad, Alex Torrez, GAC’s “Headline Country” host Storme Warren and Nashville CVC President Butch Spyridon. Judges will rate each song based on criteria including melody, composition, originality, lyrics and, most importantly, commercial appeal. The Grand prize winner will be selected on or around the week of April 1, 2014.

Everyone who enters the Music City Songwriting Competition will receive a copy of Jana Kramer’s self-titled release, and the 25 finalists will also receive a certificate of recognition, and a Music City Gift bag.

Last year’s winner was David Jonelis with “Come Home Soon“. The 2011 winning song, “Lie,” by Ruben Estevez is a single on Tracy Lawrence’s new album Headlights, Taillights and Radios.
