How to Disarm an Auto Security System

    • 1). Raise your remote key fob and aim it at the vehicle. Most car alarm remotes have a maximum range of 2,000 to 3,000 feet. Standing where you have a clear line of sight ensures there's nothing in your way blocking the remote signal.

    • 2). Press the button on the remote that temporarily disables the alarm. On most alarm systems, pressing the "unlock" button disables the remote. However, some systems are disabled by pressing the "panic" button. If your car has a factory alarm, the owner's manual indicates which button to push. If you have an aftermarket system, the alarm manual tells you what button disables the alarm.

    • 3). Put the key in the ignition and turn the car on. This disarms the alarm until you reset it.
