How to Remove an Alternator Pulley on an Escort
- 1). Pop the hood. Locate the tensioner on the engine, at the top of the serpentine belt; it looks like a pair of wheels with one contacting the belt.
- 2). Install the 3/8-inch breaker bar and a socket onto the end of the tensioner and crank the breaker bar clockwise until the belt goes loose. Pull the belt off the alternator, which is to the right of the tensioner.
- 3). Connect the impact wrench onto the air compressor via the air hose, and install an impact socket onto the wrench. Use the impact wrench to remove the nut holding the pulley onto the alternator, then pull the alternator pulley off the alternator using your hands.
