Advanced Dressing For Men - Add the Distinction of Suspenders and Braces
I love how GQ puts it: "Michael Douglas immortalized suspenders in the movie Wall Street..
add a spread collar, pinstripes, cufflinks and an expression that says "I will crush you" completes the Power Broker look".
"Crushing" may not be the order of the day, but you absolutely can use this element in your wardrobe to express more personality and increase your business authority.
How to wear them? First they need to be "real" and button on to your trousers (no clip ends).
This may require your selecting a pair or two of trousers you would like to experiment with and taking them to the cleaners to have them sew on the proper buttons inside the waist band.
They will know what to do.
Next your braces need to "complement" the color palate of your shirt and tie.
Complement means to have elements that are similar, but not necessarily matching.
Obviously (right?), you will not be wearing a belt with them.
Style aside, if any of you gents have a significant stomach, braces are visually a better choice for you than trousers held up by a belt.
Why? Two reasons: you probably wear your trousers under your belly, emphasizing it (bad) which causes your pants to hang diagonally around your torso (worse) and further completely distorts the center pleats and lines of the front of your pants (train wreck).
Wearing braces allows your trousers to hang properly.
Furthermore, braces add a vertical element to counter act a horizontal belt.
Those vertical lines are what you need to visually elongate you and minimize the ummm, horizontal factors.
