How to Make Travertine Floors Shine

  • 1). Sweep the floors often with a soft broom to collect loose dust and residue, which dulls the shiny floor surface.

  • 2). Wipe a damp mop over the floor using water only, and allow it to air-dry.

  • 3). Fill a cleaning bucket with 1 gallon of water and either stone cleaner or 1 tsp. of liquid dish soap. If you're using a stone cleaner, make sure it is labeled safe for use on travertine, and also use the recommended water to cleaner ratio as labeled on the product.

  • 4). Dip a mop into the cleaning solution, wring it out and wipe it over the travertine floors.

  • 5). Wipe the travertine with a dry cleaning rag to collect any excess moisture. For large areas of flooring, wrap the cleaning rag around a broom and wipe down the floor this way. This prevents you from having to bend over and hand-dry the entire floor.
