Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme, Vice-Chairman of Ninth CPPCC National Committee
BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Following is a biographical sketch of Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme, who was reelected vice-chairman of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Ngapoi, born Feb. 1910, native Tibetan of Lhasa, Tibet.
Served as a grain supplies official in Qamdo Prefecture and civil magistrate and auditor or "Kasha", in Tibet local government, 1936-52.
He went to Beijing and signed an accord with central government on peaceful liberation of Tibet in as chief negotiator of Tibet local government in 1951.
Severed as first deputy commander of the Tibet Military Areas Command, secretary-general and deputy director of the Preparatory Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region, 1952-59.
Served as vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and deputy director of the Preparatory Committee of of the Tibet Autonomous Region, 1959-64.
Served as vice-chairman of National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee and chairman of Tibet Autonomous Regional government, 1965-79.
Served as vice-chairman of NPC Standing Committee, chairman of NPC Ethnic Affairs Committee, chairman of Tibet Autonomous Regional NPC Standing Committee, as well as chairman of the Tibet regional government, 1979-93.
He was vice-chairman of 1st, 3rd and 8th CPPCC National Committees, deputy to the 1st through 7th NPCs, vice-chairman of of the Standing Committee of the 3rd through 7th NPCs and chairman of the NPC Ethnic Affairs Committee of the 5th through 7th NPCs. Enditem nnnn nnnn
