China Kweichow Moutai Distillery (Group) Co. Ltd. is a large enterprise, covering a total area of 680,000 square meters, of which the building area is 400,000 sq. meters. It has a work force of 4,000 and the production capacity of Moutai Liquor is 4,000 tons. The total assets of the company are now 1.5 billion yuan (RMB), of which 1.1 billion yuan is in fixed assets. Annual profit and tax totals have been running around 300 million RMB, with export value consistently reaching 10 million US dollars annually. The China Kweichow Moutai Distillery (Group) Co. Ltd. is one of the most famous enterprises and the sole Class-1 company in the Chinese liquor field. Kweichow Moutai Liquor, along with Scotch whisky and Cognac brandy, is one of the 3 most famous liquors in the world. Since winning the Gold Trophy at the Panama International Fair in 1915, Kweichow Moutai Liquor has been awarded more than 14 international prizes. It also won the "Asian Star" and the "World Star" packaging prizes, was ranked No. 1 in export advertising and won the China Famous Wine Evaluation. It is called the Chinese National Liquor.
Kweichow Moutai Liquor has a centuries long history. Before 1950, it was produced by 3 small private workshops. Thanks to the opening policy, the Moutai Distillery has achieved great progress in the combination of traditional techniques with modern management. During the eighth Five-year Plan, the Moutai Distillery developed into a large and diversified group in terms of investment, proprietary and joint-ventures. Its subsidiaries in Beijing, Shanghai, Hainan and Shenzhen are involved in hotels, restaurants, packaging material manufacturing, internal and international trade.
In recent years the Moutai Distillery has been developing the Moutai Liquor series, which includes the 43%(alcohol volume) Moutai Liquor, 38% Moutai Liquor, 33% Moutai Liquor, the Han Emperor Moutai Liquor, the Moutai Queen, the Moutai Long Live, the Guizhou Chun, the Guizhou Techun and the Moutai Chun. In 1994, quality control at the Kweichow Moutai Distillery was accredited by the quality system assurance of GB/T19002 - ISO9002. In 1995, Moutai Liquor won the Special Gold Prize at the 80th anniversary of the Panama International Fair in the United States. In 1996, the output of Moutai Liquor was 4,365 tons, the sales revenue was 0.53 billion yuan, the tax and profit was 0.29 billion yuan and the export value was 10 million US dollars.
