Richie Music Trip to Beijing
Taiwan pop singer Richie, whose Xin Tai Ruan (Too Tenderhearted) established his reputation on the Chinese mainland, will give solo performances in concert in Beijing and Shanghai in July. Ritchie ? fame has caught the attention of China.com, which is featuring his image and information links about him on its opening webpage. Earlier this year, China.com invited Ritchie to play the hero in an advertising bit about a busy, industrious and studious auto engineer and amateur racer who meets his girlfriend using China.com? free e-mail service. The theme song of the ad, Xiao Xue (Small Snow), was awarded the Most Popular Advertising Song award during a television ad awards ceremony sponsored by Asian TV.
Richie ? fans can learn more about the star by surfing the Ritchie homepage at China.com. Fans may choose which of the songs from Richie? six albums they would like to hear him sing during his upcoming solo concerts. Fans will also be able to vote on their favorite songs performed during the concerts.Concert tickets can be purchased via China.com where lucky participants may qualify to win Richie souvenirs, concert tickets or other prizes. Swan Lake The Russian State Ballet will perform wan Lake* on July 24 during its 2000 summer trip to China. Objects in the garden, that features numerous treasures and points of interest, were burned in a big fire of uncertain origin on June 27, 1923. The leisure garden was built in 1740 for Emperor Qianlong. In May 1999, the Hong Kong Fund for the Protection of Chinese Relics donated US$4 million to rebuild the garden. Reconstruction is expected to be completed and the garden opened to the public within five years. The law states that glass buildings should be cleaned at least once a year and that other buildings should be regularly cleaned, whitewashed or decorated at least once every five years. Buildings with serious damage or peeling surfaces should be repainted or re-coated immediately. According to Beijing Daily, the new law mandates that owners or managers of the buildings are responsible for getting the job done. Those who turn a deaf ear to the new law, which is expected to take effect soon, will be fined. New Five-Star Hotel to Open The Radisson Plaza State Guest Hotel will have a oft opening* for business in September. Located at 11 Fuchengmenwai Dajie, the hotel is equipped with more than 500 rooms and suites, plaza club floors and banquet and meeting spaces for up to 1,000 people. A Cantonese restaurant, a fine bar and grill, a three-story atrium lobby and lounge bar, fully equipped business center, fitness center with a large indoor swimming pool, underground parking and a shopping arcade. The hotel is owned by Beijing-based China International Industry & Commerce Co. Ltd. (CIIC) and will be managed by Radisson Hotels and Resorts. Wall Opens A part of the Great Wall that has remained unchanged since it was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) has been opened to tourists, according to China Daily. The site is located five kilometers west of the Badaling section. According to Wang Pengsheng, an official of the Badaling Great Wall Administrative Office, the site, which served as the west gate of the defense system of the Badaling section of the Great Wall, has not been renovated or decorated since it was built. lthough the pass is incomplete and weather-beaten, the connecting walls and standing towers still retain their grandeur. here are two other areas of archaeological value at the foot of Shixianguan Pass. One is an ancient quarry used in the construction of the Great Wall, and the other is a part of an original brick kiln, where all the wall ? bricks were made hundreds of years ago.*The Badaling Great Wall has received more than 100 million tourists since it opened to the public in 1952.
