Genghis Khan's Mother(May 8)Set on the Mongolian Plains, this film depicts the childhood and early years of one of history's pivotal characters. Swashbuckling horseback battles and stunning cinematography whirl around intimate scenes of a mother and her son. The harshness of the land and this long-ago era are movingly portrayed. This is a visually stunning film. The cast is all Mongolian. This will be the world premier of Director Sai Fu's epic. It will be presented at several international film festivals this year.
Carrying My Father to School on My Back (May 22)A poor peasant family has to choose whether to send their son or daughter to school. They spin a spoon on the family table and the boy comes up the winner. The years pass and the family is worn down by life's inevitable tragedies. The boy is expelled from school, but this leads to a transforming decision for all of the surviving members of the family. It was produced by the company that brought "Lei Feng is Gone" to the screen and is a candidate for this year's "Spiritual Civilization Award."
